Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC)

Infection controls and universal precautions protect clients and staff alike. Everyone benefits from rigorous infection control — you, your dentist, and the dental team. The cornerstone in a good and safe dental practice is the element of trust. You should feel free to discuss this topic with Dr. Goldstein and our staff.

Dr. Goldstein and our entire team follow procedures mandated by several federal and provincial agencies including: Health Canada, Public Health Ontario (PHO), York Region Public Health, The Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO), and the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO). These measures include:

  • Disinfectant hand soap and hand sanitizers
  • Gloves, face masks, and protection
  • Disposable barriers and chemical disinfection of countertops and all office surfaces
  • Sterilization of all equipment before every use
  • Disposable materials wherever possible
  • Checklists and regular mandatory review of IPAC protocols by all office staff

We sterilize all reusable equipment, including dental hand pieces. We use an autoclave, a device that kills bacteria and viruses by steam, heat and pressure. Our 3 sterilizers are tested daily using ‘challenge packs’ and ‘spore testing’ protocols established by provincial and regulatory agencies. All items that are sterilized are packaged and labelled and an itemized log is kept for each sterilized item.

The best defense against disease is information. The more you know, the better equipped you are to make wise decisions about your health care. The more you know about our daily procedures and policies, the more comfortable you will feel.
